PRESS RELEASE: UYO SET FOR NANTAP CONVENTION
Come February 28 – March 3, 2018, all road will lead to Uyo, the Akwa-Ibom state capital as Nigerian actors, playwrights, stage managers, scenographers, dancers and technicians among others under the auspices of the National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP) for the 2018 National Delegates Convention of the Association.
NANTAP, An affiliate of the International Theatre Institute (ITI) and the International Federation of Actors (FIA), is the umbrella body of all theatre and allied art practitioners in Nigeria with branches spread across the country, namely: Abuja, Lagos, Delta, Edo, Akwa - Ibom, Ogun, Ekiti, Abia, Oyo, Imo, Rivers, Kaduna among others.
Tagged: THE GATHERING OF STARS, the Uyo Convention, would bring together who-is-who in the theatre subsector of the Nigerian entertainment/creative industry, with the likes of Ali Baba, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Ini Edo, Moses Amstrong, Liz Benson-Amaya, Hafiz Oyetoro (Saka), Sam Ayamele, Korede Bello, Chief Chika Okpala (Zebrudaya) and Professor Wole Soyinka among others.
The national delegates’ convention is a flagship event of the NANTAP where issues critical to the industry and relevant national issues are discussed and workable solutions proffered.
With the theme: Reproductive Health, Family Planning and National Development: The Nigerian Artiste in Promoting a Worthy Cause, the convention, through its workshops, seminars, roundtable discussions and performances among others highlight the role of the artiste in promoting family planning for national development, issues of artiste’s health in reproductive health and the role of artiste as catalyst for social change among others.
Some partners, speakers and special guests expected at the convention include the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Minister of Culture, Prof. Isaac Adewole, Resident Representatives of the United Nations Population Fund, Dr. Diene Keita, Portfolio Director of the Nigerian Urban Reproductive Health Initiative (NURHI), Dr. Moji Odeku, Country Director of Ipas Nigeria, Barrister Hauwa Shekarau, Group MD, Emzor Pharmaceutical Industry Limited, Mrs. Stella Okolie and Mrs. Mary Akpobome, an Executive Director of the Heritage Bank among others.
The convention would be rounded up with an Award dinner on the evening of Saturday March 3, 2018 during which Her Excellency, Deaconess Martha Emmanuel Udom, the First Lady of Akwa Ibom state would be decorated as NANTAP Advocacy Ambassador for the year 2018. This would include presentation of awards to prominent indigenes of Akwa-Ibom State and Nigerian Artistes who have distinguished themselves in the business of theatre and national development.
Being an elective congress, the 2018 Delegate Convention is expected to give birth to a new set of officials to pilot the affairs of the association for the next three years.
