Remembering Coach Kamil Banjo: The Architect of Nigeria's Deaf Football Dominance
ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigerian football community mourns the passing of a true pioneer, Coach Kamiludden Oladimeji Banjo, the Technical Adviser of the Nigeria Deaf Super Eagles, whose unwavering dedication built a legacy of triumph for deaf sports in the nation.
Coach Banjo’s leadership was instrumental in one of Nigerian football's most inspiring recent achievements. In August 2025, he masterminded a historic victory, guiding the Deaf Super Eagles to a gold medal and a giant trophy at the West African Deaf Football Tournament on home soil in Abuja.
His success was a testament to his unique passion. As a hearing individual, Coach Banjo chose to channel his expertise into Deaf football, breaking down barriers and fostering inclusivity. Under his guidance, the Nigeria Deaf Eagles soared to become the #1 ranked team in Africa and an impressive 11th in the world.
A Legacy Forged in Gold and Selflessness
Coach Banjo's record speaks volumes: an incredible six giant trophies won for Nigeria. But those who knew him say his true impact lies beyond the silverware. He was a figure of selflessness and commitment, inspiring a generation of young deaf athletes to dream bigger and achieve more.
His passing is not just a loss but a clarion call to secure the future he fought for.
A Call to Action: Secure Banjo's Legacy and Honor His Champions
In honor of his monumental service, we join the Nigeria Deaf Football Association (NDFA) in calling on the Federal Government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to:
